Yeah, I agree with you that the beating heart can be scary. I've had it so bad along with an INTENSE ringing in my ears, It was frightening. I felt as if I was going to die. It gets better over time or so I hear. Everything gets easier with practice. I am also using the Gateway experience for the first time. It's awesome.
