Season 1, Episode 5: Where No One Has Gone Before

February 2nd, 2009

travellerI am what you might consider a Star Trek The Next Generation addict (Trekkie).  During the last few days this random thought has been running though my head about Star Tek and whether there is any references to OBEs / astral projection. I was thinking that Star Trek must have missed out of the OBE message and I was kind of disappointed because I thought I had watched every TNG episode.

Today I worked from home and it so happened that I was watching recorded DVR episodes back to back.  When the next episode came up I expected to see a familiar episode but to my suprise it was one that I somehow missed!

Season 1, Episode 5: Where No One Has Gone Before:

The Enterprise is ordred to undergo a series of tests that will propel the ship at unfathomable speed, but Riker has misgivings surrounding the equations and theories presented by the arrogant designer, and someone, most unexpected, is the only one who puts his finger on the assistant as the one behind the whole scheme of things.

This is the best episode that I have ever seen and it aligns perfectly with astral projection. Basically with the power of thought energy this man aboard the ship who is called “The Traveller” uses pure thought to propel the Enterprise 1 billion light years away from our galaxy in a matter of mintues.

The ship ends up in a non consensus part of the universe that’s made up of pure energy and all of the crew members begin the realize that what ever they think about becomes a reality. The crew has to learn very quickly to control their thoughts.

Toward the end Captain Picard speaks to ”The Traveller” in an attempt to get the ship back home and the man tells Picard that the true nature of the universe is governed by thoughts alone and though thoughts all things come into existence.

“The Traveller’s” physical body begins to die and it’s only though the collective kind thoughts of the entire ship focused toward him that they are able to heal him and make it back home.

If you are a fan of both Star Trek and Astral Projection, this episode is for you. It’s cool how I was just thinking about this throughout the days before and then the episode that I had never seen before shows up and happens “by chance” to have astral projection related concepts embedded all within it. Amazing. The universe is hard at work, bringing my thoughts into reality in every way possible, even with Star Trek.
