Vibrational State Reached Using Shamatha Meditation

March 2nd, 2009

I have not achieved the out of body state in a few weeks due to pain and drugs associated with the  extraction of my lower wisdom teeth. The pain has now been gone and I have been trying for the last week to Astral Project.

Last night I decided that I would apply some of the Shamatha Meditation techniques I learned over the weekend for Astral Projection. The two seem so alike that I can’t help but suspect that they are the same exact thing under different names. In fact I found myself sitting in a group of people in the Buddhist temple meditating and thinking to myself, “This is just another  technique for achieving the out of body state”.

I went to bed and fell asleep with no problem at about 11:00 PM while listening to Fleetwood Mac and John Lennon. I woke at 4:00 PM, had my bathroom break and then returned to bed. I ran the mantra “I am now out of body” through my head for about 10 minutes and then my mind and body fell into sleep. I then woke back up around 6:00 AM. This time I began using the “focus on breathing” technique used in  Shamatha Meditation. Random thoughts would enter my mind and I would gently return focus to breathing. The pattern repeated itself 3 more times and then I fell into a shallow sleep and almost lost consciousness but was able to return my focus back to my breathing. 1 more minute passed and the vibrations hit me but it was 6:30 AM, time for work!

I may try this technique again, but as I mentioned in previous posts, I don’t think it really matters what you’re focused on as long as you keep focused on something.

I would be interested to hear if anyone else happens to see the similarities between Shamatha Meditation and Astral Projection.

I don’t know about Shamatha Meditation but i have done Vipassana Meditation courses and the techniques from Robert Bruce’s New Energy Ways and Vipassana meditation have huge similarities. i’ve wondered if Robert Bruse ever did Vipassana meditation or whether he discovered it independantly amp; just happened that they are hugely similar…

Just read your Shamatha Meditation blog and sounds like what you call Shamatha we (from the centre i was taught) call the focus on breath Anapana meditation.

I’ll never forget how i felt when i left the meditation hall the first time i learnt Vipassana.

I’ll tell you about it later, after you have your own experience.

    Enjoy amp; peace to you,
    Dean

    Thanks for the read newmethod.

I look forward to trying Vipassana and reading Robert Bruce’s books. I have read Monroe’s books and William Buhlman’s and now I would like to get a different perspective.

I think that by practicing things very similar to Astral Projection and reading about it constantly I will flood my subconscious and make it reality. People use the word immersion to describe this in foreign language tutorials a lot.

Keep me posted of your progress.

    Best Regards

    David

I found everybodys comments on OBE and Buddhist meditation very interesting indeed, if I might just say, I too have practiced different buddhist meditations, aswell as highest yoga tantra meditations and Kriya Yoga meditations from various empowerments. Robert Bruces Astral Dynamics and Energy work books are right on the money as are all the other types of work I have done, If you wander about enough and stay extremely open minded, absorb everything there is in courses web information and books, you will see the main similarity to all of these methods are Concentration and Control, they are just worded differently as this suits us as different individuals, it wouldnt do for us to all follow the same page, but we are all definately in the same book, and it seems are eyes are wide open..Cheerz guys and the best of luck to you all..
